Why Are Cats So Active in the Early Morning?
Dec 20, 2021
Does your cat drive you crazy running back and forth at a full gallop as early as 4 in the morning? If so, you might wonder why felines get so overactive so early in the day when you are trying to catch some zzzzzz’s.
There are a couple of key reasons for this behavior from kitties:
- Cats wake up more often than we do. So, while you might sleep 8 hours through the night with just a couple wake-ups (if that), your cat does not.
- Cats go into hunting mode in the morning. If you spend time observing animals outdoors, you will notice that this is very common among predators. Mornings and evenings are the best time to catch prey, so your cats probably also are pretty active in the evenings too.
If you are tired of your cat waking you up, you might be able to reduce the behavior with later feedings at night and/or extra playtime. This combination should leave your cat sated and tired for longer. Try playing with your kitty with this light-up fish toy.
Of course, all the effort in the world isn’t necessarily guaranteed to stop your kitty from zooming around the house at the crack of dawn. It may just be something you will have to adapt to. But hey—adorable feline pals are always worth it!
